Redhill Stars v Legends of Redhill
Posted by Joanna George on 25 October 2014
A big ‘THANK YOU’ to everyone who took the time and effort to come along on Saturday! It was a success uniting both past and present players in raising money for Macmillan Cancer Support in a fun friendly match in memory of Rhian who sadly lost her battle earlier this year.
The weather stayed fair all morning and a dry supporter is a happy supporter. Rhian’s family were there to lend their support and to see what it was about hockey that lured Rhian out to us every Saturday.
The game itself was entertaining to say the least. Our umpire, Lynn, was in her element dishing out cards and fines for the merest sulk! Even Sarah was ticked off for a badly timed tackle. The crowds jeered as Thomasina was fined for falling over far too often!
It didn’t take long though before the old skills and flair came flooding back into the sticks of the legends. By half time they were soon in a commanding lead. A reminder of what a formidable team they were a few, or even several years ago! Not to be outdone, the stars fought back bravely, scoring three goals. However, by the end, the stars of Redhill had been well and truly stuffed by their own legends! (11-3) They win the ‘Charity Shield’ this year donated by Rhian’s family. I am confident that as they bask in their glory, those joints and muscles are going to ache!
It was fabulous to see so many people turn out in memory of Rhian both on the pitch and on the sidelines. We raised a whopping £445 so far, and I know more people who couldn’t come on the day intend to contribute more!!
Thank you all again,
Caroline
