Nottinghill Juniors Hockey Club

At: Goosedale Sports Club, NG6 8UJ

Time: 6:15pm - 7:15pm

Ages: 6-13 years old

Our younger members are supported by a team of excellent coaches, who will help them to find their place on the hockey pitch. It is a great place to develop social skills, fitness and co-ordination, as well as make new friends and have a giggle.

Tournaments are run throughout the year with teams of mixed ability and gender with the emphasis again on having fun and learning. We don’t have A, B, C teams etc. so we can ensure that every child experiences winning, losing, and playing with children of different abilities. Coaches will be emphasing positive leaning experiences wherever possible.

The first session is free for new players, with payment options for subsequent sessions as follows:

Pay as you Play

£4 per child per week

Full Half-Term Up Front

£20 per child

Full Year Up Front

£100 per child

Charity Tournament

On 14th August, teams from across Nottinghamshire gathered at Goosedale for a charity tournament in aid of Leon’s legacy and Henry the Brave. Redhill entered two teams, both of whom fought hard to have the most fun! The ‘White Team in Pink’ and the ‘Red Team in Yellow’ each played 6 games throughout the day, with some valiant efforts from volunteer goalkeepers (Jo, Christie and Alice) for both teams. Extra thanks to our special guest, Libby, for stepping in as an expert keeper!

Well done to Greenwood for winning the womens’ tournament and ‘Duck Duck Goose’ for winning for the men. Redhill almost certainly won the competition to make the biggest charity contribution thanks to our elaborate fines system, deftly administered by our very own Laura Brown. Scoring goals turned out to be a mixed blessing, as there was a 25p charge for every ball that went over the goal line!

With a hat-trick from Charlotte Smith in their very first game, the White team in Pink made an excellent start, finally finishing in 4th place. The Red team in Yellow scored in every single game and finished in 7th place.

Summer league

May to July, Redhill HC hosted their very own summer league for the first time, with an incredible 20 teams attending; the three Redhill teams took great pleasure in playing on their newly laid pitch.

Games progressed every Tuesday and Thursday, with every club putting in a phenomenal effort and putting a fabulous team out every week.

Congratulations to SBU on 17 wins out of 18, with an incredible 55 goals across the pool games. Redhill B came second with 56 goals, followed by Redhill C with 40. Redhill B and C, Aztecs A and SBU A all got into the final, with SBU gaining gold medals, Redhill B went away with silver and Aztecs wore bronze when they left.

We chose to experiment with some slightly different rules in order to protect younger players and allow teams to play without keepers. Whilst the rules weren’t to everyone’s taste, we succeeded in avoiding injuries and encouraged a large number of youngsters to participate in the competition.

The tournament was organised by our own Melissa Lau, with help from Alice Wealleans, who was described as “The loud one”! It was a wonderful event which reminded us all how much we love hockey and allowed us all to reconnect with each other after Covid spoiled hockey for two consecutive seasons. Next year we hope to repeat the tournament with added improvements, and we look forward to welcoming so many teams again.

ClubMark Accreditation Awarded

We are delighted to announce that Redhill Ladies Hockey Club and our sister club, Nottingham Hockey Club, have this week been awarded a joint ClubMark Accreditation by the sport's national governing body, England Hockey!

ClubMark supersedes the historic England Hockey Clubs First award. Like its predecessor, this demonstrates that we are a well-run club with all the appropriate processes and practices in place.

Well done to everyone involved in preparing our successful application!

Time to Listen is a 3-hour, interactive workshop designed for club Welfare Officers. The workshop covers several safeguarding topics, including what a Welfare Officers role involves, how to deal with a safeguarding concern and who to speak to regarding them. It is also an opportunity to share experiences with other Welfare Officers, all under the guidance of a trained tutor. Please ensure that your National Governing Body accepts the Multi-sports version of this Time to Listen before booking.

If you have no previous safeguarding training, you will need to complete a Safeguarding and Protecting Children (SPC) workshop before attending a Time to Listen Workshop.
